Morton’s Toe
Morton’s Toe Treatment in Sugar Land
Morton’s Toe is a common forefoot disorder where the second toe is longer than the big toe or hallux. Frequently the dip of the second toe develops a callous and is curved downward similar to hammertoe or mallet toe.
What Causes Morton’s Toe?
Formation under the second metatarsal head. Treatment of Morton’s Toe begins with selecting proper footwear. Footwear with a high and wide toe box is ideal for treating this condition. It may be necessary to buy footwear a half size to a size larger to accommodate the longer second toe.
Orthotics with a metatarsal pad are effective in minimizing the excessive pressure on the 2nd metatarsal head area.
If the long second toe is painfully contracted or if the problem is not responsive to conservative treatment, then hammertoe surgery may be required to treat this problem.
